Recession chic

Dutch designer, Eric  Van Loo and partner Peggy van Neer have created a duvet which looks like a cardboard box with an accompanying bed sheet that appears to be a pavement in an entrepreneurial business enterprise called  Snurk. The name means “to snore” in Dutch and part of the proceeds from each sale go towards a hostel for homeless youth in Holland. I suppose Slavoj Žižek would consider this part of cultural capitalism and condemn it but now for a few Euros you can have a guilt free sleep in the comfort of your own home knowing that you’re helping homeless youth and expressing solidarity with the unfortunate proletariat.

  1. I find the whole thing to be in a decidedly poor taste, both aesthetically and politically.
